Having Project Chaos? Here’s why you need a PM yesterday

No project manager can lead to frustration and project failure

I’ve been there.

Every project starts with good intentions. The team has an end goal of a brand new product or a major overhaul to an existing system that’s supposed to bring business value.

Take a wedding for example. Could you imagine a wedding without a wedding coordinator? Without a leader to coordinate and to conduct all the pieces to ensure everything goes according to plan?

  • Who will tell the vendors where and when to setup?

  • Who will remove any issues or blockers should they arise?

  • The bride and groom? Family members?

Any plan no matter how detailed, could result in missed milestones, shifting priorities, and unfulfilled expectations due to a lack of structure and accountability, 2 important foundational pillars that project managers bring to the table.

Here are some other causes that may completely derail your project:

Scope creep

For the uninitiated, scope creep refers to the gradual additions or expansions to a project without adjustments to either the time, cost or resources. A good project manager will establish clear boundaries and ensures that every change request is evaluated for its impact.

Deadlines also suffer without a PM.

Team members may not know what’s expected by when, and dependencies between tasks get ignored. Project managers maintain momentum by creating realistic schedules , following up with resources and identifying critical paths.

Poor communication

Finally, PMs ensure the communication loop is tight and delivered in a clear and consise manner. They act as liaisons between stakeholders and delivery teams, reducing misunderstandings that often derail timelines.

If your project feels chaotic, it’s a sign that you need structured oversight.

A PM brings the discipline required to steer a project from chaos to completion!
